Ayurveda is often associated with complex formulas and time-consuming applications. And indeed, many ayurvedic treatments require a lot of leisure time and are best done on vacation.

However, our Ayurvedic tips show that Ayurveda also has many measures that everyone can easily integrate into their everyday life.

But why should one want to use Ayurvedic tips at all? What can Ayurveda do? Which advantages do Ayurvedic measures have? And in what way does Ayurveda differ from our well known western orthodox medicine?

Ayurveda: Faster than conventional medicine

Good Ayurveda therapists can recognize potential health problems long before measuring orthodox medicine instruments – which is, of course, an enormous advantage. Because finally applies:

The sooner a health deficit is recognized, the easier it is to remedy it or to counter it preventively in advance – with simple and inexpensive methods.

Ayurveda diagnoses without equipment. The therapist uses the pulse diagnosis and simultaneously observes the skin color, skin tone, the condition of the eyes, and the tongue (face and tongue diagnosis).

The harmonization of your doshas

The patient is also asked numerous questions about their lifestyle: How he eats, how well or how badly and how long he sleeps, how often he moves, and how he feels mentally.

In this way, the Ayurveda doctor determines which doshas (Pitta, Vata, Kapha) are pronounced in the patient and how intensively, and where there are possible imbalances.

Each of the three doshas stands for one or two elements—Vata for wind, Pitta for fire, and Kapha for earth and water.

Although every human being has all three Doshas within himself, one or two Doshas usually dominate, while the other Doshas are much less pronounced. This form of Doshas determines the metabolic type of the individual, his temperament, or in general, his constitution.

The Ayurvedic doctor will now try to balance the doshas with the help of appropriate dietary instructions and herbal preparations, which will help the person to find his or her healthy inner harmony again.

Panchakarma: The all-round cleansing

If the doshas are in such a muscular imbalance that more extensive measures are needed, a panchakarma cure is scheduled. Panchakarma describes the legendary and comprehensive all-round cleansing of the body’s interior under medical supervision.

Rarely does one experience how such a cure takes place, what one does during it, what one experiences, and how one feels. Many people who experienced and lived through Panchakarma experienced radical health improvements, and Panchakarma has already saved quite a few people.

Indian medicine heals by following the laws of nature and natural dynamics – in contrast to conventional treatment. As can often be observed in orthodox medicine, the desire for outdoor trick nature is absent in Ayurveda.

Ayurvedic tip no. 1: Ayurvedic herbs

Ayurvedic centers usually have their Ayurvedic pharmacies that provide each patient with the herbs they need in their current situation.

A universal herbal preparation, which is suitable for almost every person and every constitution, because it regulates all doshas equally, is Triphala. It belongs to the most important and most frequently prescribed Ayurvedic herbal mixtures and is our first Ayurvedic tip for you.

Triphala consists of three different ayurvedic fruits and is often called a tri fruit.

Triphala primarily promotes digestion, excretion, and detoxification. It is precisely these three aspects that have made Triphala one of the most popular Ayurvedic tips, as they – together with the right diet – are the key to perfect health.

When the body digests optimally, it can enjoy the right combination of nutrients and all the vital substances. If it can also eliminate all metabolic residues entirely and quickly, no waste products accumulate.

If the organism is also regularly detoxified, the organs remain fully functional and robust in their defenses – right into old age. The skin remains pure, and the vision is preserved.

Due to its universal applicability, our Ayurvedic tip no. 1 – the Triphala – is considered a so-called Rasayana, which means rejuvenating agent.

Ayurvedic tip no. 2: Ayurvedic nutritional tricks

As mentioned above, the diet in Ayurveda is usually individually adapted to each person and their constitution.

However, five rules apply equally to all people. They also provide for an optimal digestive fire, good utilization of food, and thus raise the body’s energy level.

Five nutritional ayurvedic tips:
  • The day’s largest meal should be taken when the sun is highest because then the digestive power is also most muscular. Breakfast should be modest, as the body is still busy in the morning with detoxification work.
  • It would help if you did not drink anything at mealtimes, as this would reduce the digestive fire.
  • In general, it is better not to drink cold drinks, but warm ones. This does not necessarily mean coffee or tea, but only water. Warm water has a cleansing and digestive effect and does not rob the body of any energy.
  • Unfermented soy products should not be eaten. Fermented soy products can be used in small quantities, such as soy sauce, tempeh, or miso.
  • The fruit is best eaten alone and should not be mixed with other food groups.

Ayurveda tip no. 3: Warm lemon water

Another tip from Ayurveda that is very easy to implement is to drink warm lemon water in the morning.

Drink it immediately after getting up. Then the organism is still in the detoxification phase and not nearly ready for food intake.

Drinking warm lemon water thus purifies the organism, cleanses it, stimulates digestion and excretion, and at the same time, supplies it with vitamins and secondary plant substances.

To make warm lemon water, warm up good water (filtered water or non-carbonated spring water) and add the juice of half a lemon to each glass of water.

Before doing so, the tongue should be cleaned with a tongue cleaner to remove the nightly cinders that show up in a white coating.

Ayurveda tip no. 4: Ginger

Another typical Ayurvedic drink with excellent health effects is ginger tea. For this purpose, boil two to three slices of ginger or freshly grated ginger with 200 ml water and then add the juice of ½ lemon and, if desired, a spoonful of honey.

The honey (cold-spun and unheated) should only be added to the ginger tea after it has cooled down to drinking temperature.

Alternatively, you can mix a piece of ginger with hot water in a mixer, again with lemon juice and – after cooling to drinking temperature – honey and enjoy. Of course, you can also prepare ginger tea without honey.

You drink two to three cups of ginger tea a day. Only pure Pitta types that already have enough fire in them and do not need ginger’s other fire should not drink ginger tea.

Of course, ginger can be used to make more than just tea. The hot root is also often found in Ayurvedic recipes, such as in the so-called kichari, which is the subject of our next tip.

Ginger is considered a reliable medicinal plant. Because it has such an excellent anti-inflammatory effect, it is also used for all inflammatory problems, such as arthritis and ulcerative colitis (chronic inflammatory bowel disease). At the same time, ginger is said to have a pain-relieving effect.

Ginger also improves digestion – of both fat and protein – and relieves flatulence. It can, therefore, be drunk after a meal when you feel full.

In the case of nausea (including morning sickness), ginger can work wonders. Ginger is also used to treat cancer and to thin the blood, i.e., to prevent thrombosis.

Therefore, our fourth tip from Ayurveda is a powerful natural remedy that should be used as often as possible.

Ayurveda tip no. 5: Kichari

Kitchari is a dosha-balancing, i.e., a very well-balanced and nourishing dish, which serves for regeneration and rejuvenation. It can be eaten as a cure for up to two or three weeks as a main meal or only in between.

During and after the Panchakarma cure, Kichari is one of the most important meals, which is also recommended during an acute illness.

Kitchari is – according to Ayurveda – a perfectly balanced and healing dish that can harmonize body and mind. It usually consists of basmati rice with mung beans or lentils and a unique mixture of spices and ginger.
